The Last Light of the Sun (LLS) by Guy Gavriel Kay is an epic "quasi historical" fantasy novel, involving the entwined cultures of the Celts, Saxons, and Norses. To describe the feel of LLS in three words: survival, raw, and earthy. Unlike some of Kay's other books which dealt with the splender/decadence/grand battles of empires, LLS deals with one northern area and the intricacy/interweaving of how small things done by people not great events are what really shapes history; kinda like "the beat of the wings of that butterlfy which causes the mountains to fall down on the far side of the world". Unexpectedly, Kay has some quite humours moments which leaves you shaking your head. It is hard to describe what is best/worst about LLS without giving the plot away, it is worth the read (8/10). If you would like to borrow it..let me know.
