Little Big Planet is a hugely anticipated game that was due to be released this week in the US and next week in Canada. However, it happens to contain words and lyrics from the Quran (http://kotaku.com/5065106/nsiders-letter-to-sony-and-media-molecule-re-quran-references). This offense has spurred a world-wide recall just prior to release, and we may see a new release date some time in November. (http://www.eurogamer.net/article.php?article_id=262215)
The kicker? The song is by an accepted Muslim artist (http://www.taipeitimes.com/News/feat/archives/2008/02/24/2003402699) and is a couple years old. Why complain NOW?

Apparently the musician won a grammy (not sure if it was for this song) and the album with this music is available on Amazon.

Furthermore, the complaint did not request a recall.  It merely asked that a patch be released as soon as possible to remove the offending song from the game.

According to PSXExtreme (which quotes the Official Playstation Blog), Little Big Planet's new North American release date is October 27th.  Okay, that's not so bad.

Wow.. how much money was lost over reprinting and repackaging a world-wide launch (not to mention the time and materials to reprint the disc).. and then the recall and redistribution!!  Jeepers!  I guess it is a good thing Play Station has a boat-load of money... I suppose the fear of how much bad PR it could cause (remember the cartoon of the prophet that exploded into giant riots outweighed the recall costs though.

Dell Deal of the Day has LBP for $10 off.  Delivery is not expected till Nov 5th, but rather than checking stores to see if it has shown up yet, or sold out already, etc, I just ordered it and it'll just show up at the door some day.
