Autodesk is giving away their CAD software for free to the unemployed, plus free online training, in an effort to help people update their skills for job hunting.  http://www.canadianmanufacturi.....20090406_134416_5992.  Although this could also be considered just another approach to indoctrinating people to use AutoCAD, it is already pretty much the defacto standard.
Microsoft too is offering free training to americans: http://www.crn.com/it-channel/214502376.  However I believe the only way to get their software for free will land you in jail.
