Recently in New York, a drunk woman named Diane Schuler drove the wrong way on a highway for nearly two miles before killing eight people in other vehicles and her passengers-her daughter and three young cousins.
Fluke incident?-supposedly not-women are now more likely to be careening drunk down the highway! Over the last ten years the rates for drunk driving incidents ( in terms of police arrests) by women have increased by 30% whereas in the same period the incidents for men have decreased by 7.5%.

I bet that woman had a history of drunk driving as well.  Rarely is it a one time offense.

I would suspect the same... I REALLY just don't understand why women are choosing habits that men have already proven are stupid...smoking...excessive drinking...violent crimes...all on the rise for women while men rates are dramatically dropping....

While there is an increase, how does it rank compared to the number of male cases?

Quoted Text
Despite the new trend, drunken driving arrests remain dominated by men. In 1998, 676,911 men were arrested for being under the influence, compared with 626,371 arrests in 2007. More than 126,000 women were arrested for DUI in 1998, a number which increased to 162,493 in 2007.

Perhaps it's not that women are adopting the bad habits that men are out-growing.  Perhaps it's that people in general are averaging out in their behaviour?  It would be interesting to see the numbers measured across age groups.

Interestingly, when we divide the groups up by age (Under 18 vs everyone else), it's predominately OLDER people that are getting worse.
