HVP (Hydrolized Vegetable Protein) is yet another artificial sweetener loosened upon the unsuspecting public, and this one comes with a nasty friend.  Salmonella has been found in products you really wouldn't normally worry about, and is being recalled.  http://www.cbc.ca/consumer/story/2010/03/08/consumer-cfia-food.html.
