It took a year of arguing, but Obama finally brought the controversial Health Care law to the US.  http://www.cbc.ca/world/story/2010/03/23/obama-health-care-bill.html.  However, it's not like the public health care we enjoy here in Canada.  This new system makes purchasing health insurance mandatory and people can be fined for not having it.  Depending on your income, you may be subsidized the cost of insurance.
Interestingly, an insurance company can not refuse applicants, but they can slot them into high risk groups (which will cost more).
