Hey Diddles - thanks again for helping me restore my computer.
Any idea why it doesn't recognize any audio device though?  I'd get a driver only when I look under Sounds and Audio Devices (in Control Panel) it says "No Audio Device"...
Suggestions?

Yes.  That makes sense actually.  I think it picked up my work headset as an audio device and used that, but when you got it home and there was no headset, there's no more audio device.

I have your spec sheet here, which I will give back to you when I see you next.  You need to install drivers for your audio hardware.  Go to the page I used: http://support.acer-euro.com/drivers/desktop/aspire_t180.html and in the Windows XP drop down pick "audio".  Unpack and install whatever it downloads and you should be good to go.

Sorry about missing that while you were still here.

Alrighty then.  Time to see what hardware you have, instead of what hardware you supposedly have.  Download, install and run this:http://darkshade.homeip.net/stuff/everesthome220.exe

Although it's a few years old and unsupported, it is still the best thing I've seen for identifying hardware in Windows.  Take a look and see what it says you have for audio devices.
