Actually, sexuality is very important to kids. We're not talking in a reproductive sense here, but in a "gender identity" sense. Little boys and little girls learn what it means to be little boys and little girls from their parents. These are things such as boys do not play with dolls, girls like pink, etc. Heck, even McDonald's has "girl toys" and "boy toys" for their Happy Meals!
Unfortunately, once children learn what society deems "acceptable" behaviour, anyone acting contrary is ostracized harshly. So for little "Daphne" here, his biggest concern will be the other boys and girls his age, especially if he repeatedly leans towards female behaviour. They'll treat him more cruelly than the mothers would (even though the kids learned the "standard" from them). |
