There is controversy brewing in Fort Wayne, Indiana. They wanted to name the new government building after someone from Fort Wayne's history and because Harry Baals was the longest running mayor (from the 1930's through 1950's) his name was included in a public vote. Naturally the online poll wound up with 95% of the votes and now the deputy mayor is claiming they will NOT name the new building "Harry Baals". http://hypervocal.com/politics.....ainst-crowdsourcing/Now as you read/hear more about the story, back in the day, the last name was pronounced "balls" but sometime after serving as mayor someone in the family decided to change the pronunciation to "bails" instead... but regardless of how it is intended to pronounced, it will naturally always be referred to as the Hairy Balls Government Center. |
