There is a massive recall on ground beef due to E. coli.  That obviously includes burger patties.  Here's a list of the affected products: http://www.inspection.gc.ca/english/corpaffr/recarapp/2012/20120319cliste.shtml

This is why industry self-regulation fails.  "Ignore any contaminants for Canadian consumption.  It's not our problem." - paraphrase of food inspector director and memo to inspectors.  http://www.ctvnews.ca/canada/b.....-carcasses-1.1058234

But oh, they take special care screening beef they export to Japan!

All the more reason to buy from and support your local farmers...
Honestly, you do pay a little more but we've never had anything but great quality meat from the following local farmers:

Faul Farms - for chicken breasts, beef (both ground beef, roasts and steaks) and even breakfast sausages
http://www.faulfarms.com/Welcome.html
Check out their location on the web, but basically between Ayr and Paris

Barrie's Asparagus Farm - for sausages (garlic or spicy) and the best bacon ever
http://www.barriesasparagus.com/
These guys are a 5 minute drive from our place!!

Both these places either raise all the meat they sell themselves or else sell it for other local farmers who raise it here.  Faul Farms even grows their own grains for the cattle to feed on, so their meat is all chemical free.
We get a box of chicken breasts from Faul Farms for around $60 - and the chicken breasts are huge and not filled with water (meaning they barely shrink at all when you cook them).  Their steaks and roasts are great but if you cook a lot with ground beef like us, their ground beef is fantastic (we notice a difference in the level of fatty grease remaining in the pan, not to mention a better taste).  Everything is basically the same as the expensive chicken or beef or pork in the store and doesn't ever go on sale... so you pay a little more but you get so much better quality and it is chemical free!

I should get a discount from those places when I advertise for them

BTW - Barrie's let's you bring your green bin scraps to feed their pigs throughout the summer and fall.  We brought out pumpkin guts and even jack-o-lanterns (and we had 9 of them this year)... the kids had a blast feeding them to the pigs
