According to hard core Juicers on the net, the following two Juicers (which I've included prices) are the top of the line.  There seems to be a bit of a religious war over which is the ultimate best, but it doesn't really matter since they're both WAAAAY out of our price range.  If you're interested in seeing a head-to-head of these, check out: http://youtu.be/-roFYa1wPpk

Angel Juicer (AG-5500): $1,150.00
Norwalk Hydraulic Press Juicer: $2,495.00

With the top end out of contention, we wanted something cheaper that produced nearly as good juice (not pulpy, not oxidized) and was easy to clean.  Oh, and certainly less work than that Press juicer.  That's just an insane amount of work for juice.

Our early front-runner in reading multiple websites was the Breville Ikon.  Well reviewed, and very much a home-sized version of the juicer used at the juice counter in Union Station where I get yummy juices before heading home on the train.

Breville Ikon: $249.99

which is just a better reviewed version of

Breville Juice Fountain: $179.99

Thing is, it's VERY loud.  There's a disc blade in there that spins 6000-8000 RPMs grating the produce into shreds.  This is known as a Centrifugal juicer, and in a head-to-head comparison with a Single Augur juicer, seems much less appetizing.  Here's the Omega VRT-350 compared to Breville Juice Fountain: http://youtu.be/F5lmPOxa8WM

The Omega seemed so quiet and effortless in comparison!  And the juice seemed much tastier looking.  Furthermore, cleaning is a breeze.  It all comes apart into hand-washable parts (nothing sharp) for a thorough cleaning, but for a quick cleaning, all you have to do is run water through it!  So we looked into that one too.

Omega VRT-350: $399

Okay, the VRT-350 seems better than the Breville, but how does it compare with one of the high end machines?  Here's a head-to-head against the Angel: http://youtu.be/mOPDIKfulgg

$399 is a bit steep, but with a 20% coupon from Bed, Bath, and Beyond, it comes to $319.20.  Sign up for coupon here: https://app.bedbathandbeyond.ca/prefs_ca/pref.cfm?src=header&

We've made 2 juices so far.  Yesterday was carrot, orange, ginger, and apple.  It was simple to make, and delicious.  Today was apples, celery, spinach, fennel, cucumber, romaine lettuce, kale, ginger, and lemon.  Handled it all fabulously.  One thing to remember with Celery though, cut it across the grain into chunks.  Otherwise you'll get long strings of cellulose which could wrap themselves around moving parts.

I love the quiet, and enjoy watching it chew away at a long stick of something (without me having to press it down like other units), and the juice yields are quite impressive with not a lot of pulp.  Like the more expensive units, the plant enzymes are retained, so juice can be stored for up to 72 hours.  We think the Omega VRT-350 hits the sweet spot of price/quality.

Hopefully this info helps you if you decide to buy a juicer, regardless of model.
