The best summary I've seen/read/heard about which next-generation console to buy: http://www.escapistmagazine.com/videos/view/zero-punctuation/7417-Next-Gen-Buyers-GuideEssentially, new console launches used to be "Here's our console, and here's some fun games it plays." Now we don't get to see the games, the price tag, or even the console! What we do get is hype, conjecture, and cinematic trailers for games that may never get released or barely resemble the better-than-pixar quality demos. And yet the mindless masses still line up and shout "Take my money!" It seems if you want to play games, you're better off sticking with old games on PC or old consoles. The new stuff comes with too many conditions: Single player game requires internet connection to work, game is free but crippled until you empty your wallet or bank account, game requires a Facebook login just to save your high score, game fights piracy by validating on some server that once it gets shut down you're left with a worthless coaster, game is fine but requires EA Origin, etc etc.
