Ever wonder why there was such an explosion of options in K-Cups the last year or two? It's because the K-Cup patent expired in 2012, allowing 3rd parties to make their own. This was great for consumers. Keurig wants to put an end to that. Their next line of Keurig brewers include DRM preventing unlicensed K-Cup brands from working. You will end up paying more per cup, either by buying their Green Mountain coffee brand, or because 3rd party makers will have to raise their prices to include the licensing fee.
