America is in an uproar because a hacker group named the "Guardians of Peace" is holding Sony hostage to prevent the release of "The Interview" to theaters. Fox News is even likening this cyber-terrorism to 9-11. "The Interview" is a silly comedy starring Seth Rogan and James Franco, so I can see why Sony was quick to write it off. However a lot of pressure from numerous sources encouraged Sony not to back down, including even President Obama. Of all the suggestions I've seen, releasing it on Crackle seemed the smartest move. Crackle is a little known free streaming service (apparently owned by Sony) which offers a lot of old movie and run-out TV shows. I've enjoyed it for such gems as Sanford and Son, The Tick, and a few classic westerns. By adding "The Interview" to the service as an exclusive, it'll really amp up awareness and get the movie to the viewers through a legitimate channel. Crackle is available on nearly every media device, include Playstation, Apple TV, Roku, WDTV, and much much more. While looking up the website, I see they have added Justified, Community, and Comedians in Cars getting Coffee. http://www.crackle.com/Source: http://nypost.com/2014/12/21/sony-plans-to-release-the-interview-on-crackle-for-free/ |
