Hey Trarman,

Would World of Warcraft run on my computer?  Would I be able to connect and play online with my internet connection?

Yes, and yes.  It's not that intense graphically.  The appeal is in the gameplay.  I think I saw it on sale this week at one of the big box stores for $29.99.  (You have to supply a credit card number to create your account though, so they can bill you if you don't cancel before the first month is over).

One of the nice things is, you're paying for the account, not the game.  So you could play your account on any WoW installation.  (prime example: both of us can play at my place).

How much is the monthly fee?

Hey Trarman,

Which world are you in in World of Warcraft?
Posted by: Hawkeye, December 30, 2005, 12:48pm; Reply: 4
Never mind I went and bought the game yesterday.

What is your username in the game?  I am Trarman.  I hope the 'friend list' function in the game works off of username and not character names... cuz I don't know my character names right now.

I tried getting in after we talked last night, but it estimated half an hour in the queue so I just went to bed instead.  :)

Hey Trarman, anything new on the scopes for video games?

RE: EA Spyware

Why do they want to put in-game ads in the first place?!  That is rediculous.  I can't recall any game that had IN-GAME ads at all.  This sounds akin to Sony's little spyware thing.  I guess they think they can do it as long as people agree with the disclaimer.  I agree with you Trarman, as good as Battlefield 2143 looks, I will not buy it either.

I think what they expect is that people will complain, but buy the game anyway and install it.  I think the "in-game" ads are just their pitch to the consumer.  The info is what they really want so they can target real advertising, or sell the info, etc.  Pretty scummy.

I got Tiger Woods 07 and Pirates.  Both are pretty good games.  Tiger Woods is hard even on novice I'm into my second year of 'playing' and still haven't qualified for the amateur championship!

I have Tiger 07 for the PSP but haven't tried it yet.  I enjoy 06 just fine and don't know how 07 can be much better.  There's yet another version of Pirates??

RE: Pirates:

This is the third version and the ship battles are a lot cooler in that you can choose from grape shot, chain shot and cannon shot.  You see guys getting flung off the enemy ship when you hit it.  Also the land combat is cool and there are other little features like ballroom dancing to win the hearts of the governor's daughters.  The animation as a whole is quite good and the graphics are certainly an upgrade.

I'm also getting company of heroes which is a tactical rts at the squad level for world war II.  The guys on reveiws on the run seem to like it Tommy of course is who I go by  :)  The other guy is ok, but he is flaky like a certain grade 10 art teacher who was prone to giving higher grades than the projects warrented.

Next time I'm over Hawkeye, be sure to show me the Pirates game.
I used to love the original!  I think I saw it for sale at Future Shop but assumed since the second version was so bad the third one would probably not be any better.

I loved the original as well, and this one is so much better... still the same kind of game... not too strategical, but fun never-the-less.

Just saw a review for a new PS3 game on Gamespot.  It's called Conan!  And boy 'o boy it is just like the comics we got when we were kids.  Blood spewing all over the place!
Posted by: Diddly, March 6, 2007, 3:16pm; Reply: 20
Yeah, I was just looking at that yesterday too... 'cept a different site from Gamespot.  Made me think of Gary Kwapisz's art.  Also made me want to break out an issue of the old Savage Sword and read some.

OMG!  I just watched the Trailer for Sony "Home" which is going to be a part of the Playstation 3 firmware...  Check it out here: http://kotaku.com/gaming/clips/gdc07-clip-the-ps3s-home-242341.php

I'm STUNNED!  I was expecting something a little more hokey, but that friggin rocks!

Here's a longer video of the "LittleBigPlanet" that was briefly shown in the above video... looks cool too, especially since it sounds like it has a construction set that you can build levels and share them.

Is this some kind of Sims take off?
Posted by: Hawkeye, March 14, 2007, 8:46pm; Reply: 24
How good are your players in Golf now Chaquita and Diddly?
Posted by: Diddly, March 14, 2007, 9:54pm; Reply: 25
Neither of us has played any golf recently.

No, Sony Home isn't a Sims take-off, because you don't have to get your avatar up at 1am to get dressed in the morning, eat breakfast, clean up, poop, and shower, in time to catch your ride to work at 9am.
It's just a virtual representation of you to interact with other virtual people and invite them to lose badly to you at some game.
Posted by: Hawkeye, March 15, 2007, 3:51pm; Reply: 26
Oh, well, so you're saying its not even a good take off of the Sims...
Posted by: Shabadu_SMH, March 17, 2007, 6:16pm; Reply: 27
I never really got the whole thing with Sims.. if I wanted to live life and not be a video-game playing loser, why would I play a video game about living life?  I poop on my own and work on my own... there is no need for me to play a gme where I'm doing the same thing.. its like in Grand Theft Auto San Andreas.. I DO work out in my REAL life but why oh why would I want to do it in a video game?  I do it so I ACTUALLY am healthy in this life, or healthier than my fat a** gets if I don't, but by no means do I want to do it.. so why would I want to workout in a stupid video game?  I want to have the guy who can run around and beat the mess outta 50 people without flinching or losing his breathe.. thats part of the fntasy of playing the game, isn't it?

Just my thoughts on the matter...
Posted by: Hawkeye, March 23, 2007, 8:35pm; Reply: 28
Neither did I.  It was rediculous really... I found my character had to go to the bathroom too many times during the day that he could even sleep!

Heh heh.. yah definately not the type of game for me.. but go check out the new thread I started "Fun (or lame) online games".. nothing great like WoW but sometimes you come across a game you feel is worth sharing... :)

Diddly, any new games for the Wii?
Posted by: Diddly, April 11, 2007, 2:52pm; Reply: 31
I haven't been playing Wii.  Just PS3.  We've got Wii Sports (which you've played), Zelda, and Rayman Rabid Rabbits or something.

Anything new for PS3?
Posted by: Diddly, April 12, 2007, 8:28pm; Reply: 33
Sadly, no.  Just been playing God of War II (playstation 2 game) on the PS3.  That game is wicked fun.  Hard to believe it's a PS2 game actually.  I finished it last weekend when Shabadu was visiting.  It's the first PS2 game (besides Wrestling games) that I remember ever playing till the finish.

You should try it out on Titan mode.  :)
Posted by: Shabadu_SMH, April 13, 2007, 12:05pm; Reply: 34
Heh heh.. yah titan mode allowed me to get to the 3rd or 4th battle (even with the game beginning in god-mode) before dying.... on the easy setting I couldn't die if I tried... like Robin said when he sat in the driver's seat for the first time "holy hardness batman!"

Since I finished the game, this unlocked new costumes for Kratos...  Hawkeye was able to play "Cod of War" in which Kratos wears a big fish costume and attacks with fish hooks instead of swords.
Posted by: Hawkeye, July 20, 2007, 7:05pm; Reply: 36
The only problem is the cut scenes didn't keep up with the costume.
Posted by: Chiquita, October 31, 2007, 12:30am; Reply: 37
So Hawk-you have no GH III score? What's up with that?...I think you need to rectify it this week(end) .... :) and maybe some more  HS play?

Holy Video Game Goodness!!  Check out this new gaming monitor from Alienware!  Hawkeye, I think we found the critical component to your next computer.

Here's an honest article about the monitor: http://www.shacknews.com/featuredarticle.x?id=735

Posted by: Hawkeye, January 17, 2008, 1:35pm; Reply: 39
I read that article and man that think must weigh a ton!  The three verticle lines though would really tick me off though.  I'd just as soon wait for the flat panel version... so that at that time I can wait until it becomes cheaper, so that at that time I'll need a bigger monitor because of my elderly eyes losing their power.
Posted by: Diddly, January 17, 2008, 5:36pm; Reply: 40
Yeah, the vertical bars would bother me too.  I had read another review which hadn't mentioned them, and watched a youtube-ish video which didn't show them...  so I was more excited about it when I started writing the post, than when I found the article that I linked.

Doesn't matter.  By the time we can afford such a setup, we'll be buying pocket sized projectors that use lasers instead of a bulb.  And we won't have a keyboard, we'll have a laser projected keyboard image on a desktop that senses where your fingers land.  Yes, both these things exist.

Except the versions now burn your retinas and the backs of your hands... hard to play a first person shooter with the smell of burning human flesh and blurry vision.

Just makes for a more realistic experience.  ;)

On that topic, there's a device you can buy for the PS2/PS3 that actually gives you an electric shock when certain events happen in game (eg, dying).  http://www.psxextreme.com/ps2-news/4349.html
